Player aims to turn heads under Clement as Rangers agree £1.7m transfer - report

Rangers are close to signing Hamza Igamane with the striker en route and looking to become a key player for Philippe Clement, according to the Daily Record.

The Record reported on 3 July that the 21-year-old Moroccan forward will soon arrive in Glasgow to complete his £1.7million switch to Ibrox from AS FAR Rabat in his homeland.

Barring any last-minute issues, Igamane looks set to become the first permanent attacking transfer of several for the Gers this summer, as Clement leads a huge overhaul of the existing squad at Ibrox [Foot Mercato, 21 June].

In a statement thanking the hierarchy, staff, fans and his team-mates at AS FAR, Igamane said that he’d had an “incredible journey”, but now was the time to “bid farewell and embark (on) a new challenge.”

The speed at which Clement is going about his complete shake-up of the light blues’ squad suggests he’s set to leave no stone unturned when it comes to shaping his new-look side next season.

Igamane, whose £1.7million transfer fee is by far the biggest shelled out so far this summer, will become the Belgian’s fifth permanent signing within just weeks of the window opening, and sixth overall.

Outgoings have also been thick and fast too, though, with five senior players all 30 and above being released at the end of their contracts. Igamane will be the fifth of six new arrivals aged 21 or under.

In the attacking department, Igamane could be thrust into first-team action sooner than expected, with loanees Fabio Silva and Abdallah Sima returning to their parent clubs and Yusuf Kabadayi yet to sign.

Regardless of when the Morocco striker, who could also soon be an Olympian, is given his chance by Clement, Igamane will be keen to prove to the Gers manager that he was worth taking the risk on [Daily Record, 17 June].

In other Rangers news, Ben Davies’ exit from the club could be delayed due to takeover developments at Sheffield United.
