Player close to confirming he's signed for Everton - report

Leeds United forward Jack Harrison is close to confirming a season-long loan return to Everton, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The news outlet reported online (19 June) that Harrison has triggered a still-active loan release clause in his contract at Elland Road.

As first reported by The Athletic (19 June) the new loan agreement will not include a loan fee and will see the Toffees cover the player’s wages.

Harrison was keen to remain at Goodison Park next term.

Will Everton sign Jack Harrison permanently from Leeds United?

This appears to be a smart move for all parties involved.

Harrison clearly has no desire to play his football with the Whites in the Championship as he gears up for his fifth successive season in the Premier League.

As a result, clearing his wages means Leeds United can use the freed-up funds to bring in players who want to be at the club.

As for Everton, the Toffees are in no position to be splashing the cash on big-name signings.

However, they still need reinforcements ahead of next season, and bringing back a player without having to pay a fee therefore makes plenty of sense.

Harrison already knows the club and performed relatively well under Sean Dyche last season.

He therefore has room for improvement and could become an even more important player at Goodison Park next year.

As for his long-term future, Harrison is contracted with Leeds United until 2028.

However, should he perform well next season and should Everton begin to sort out some of their financial troubles, the player could perhaps eventually make his stay permanent.

In other Everton news, the club are set for a “very strong” financial boost amid a takeover update.
