Player passes medical to sign for Rangers, Ibrox star sales now on the cards - report

Hamza Igamane has passed a medical ahead of Rangers officially announcing his arrival at Ibrox, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported via their website on Saturday (22 June) that Igamane, 21, has signed a five-year deal in Govan after agreeing a move from Moroccan side FAR Rabat.

It is understood that within the next 48 hours, he’ll be announced as Philippe Clement’s fifth signing of the summer with a fee of £2.5million agreed.

Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Clinton Nsiala and Connor Barron have all signed for Rangers already this summer while Mohamed Diomande’s loan has been automatically turned into a permanent deal.

The Scottish Sun adds that a bunch of players could now leave Ibrox with James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Todd Cantwell all potentially on the chopping block.

Who is Rangers’ newest signing Hamza Igamane?

Igamane is unlikely to be a player who Rangers fans had heard of before he started being linked with a move to Ibrox this summer.

The 21-year-old is a striker who scored seven times in 23 appearances across all competitions for FAR Rabat last season as they finished second to Raja Casablanca in the Botola Pro (the Moroccan top flight). In the 2022/23 season, Igamane scored six goals in 18 league games as his side won the league title to become the club’s youngest-ever champion.

While there’s an obvious step up from the Moroccan top flight, which is regarded as the best league in Africa, to the Scottish Premiership, joining with title-winning experience at a young age is definitely a good thing. There are also some huge stadiums in Morocco with extremely hostile atmospheres and that will have no doubt further prepared Igamane for the pressure cooker of the Old Firm.

Igamane is also a winner internationally having lifted the U23 African Cup of Nations with Morocco.

There’s no doubt going to be a bit of a culture shift in moving from Rabat – a city known for blazing heat and incredible architecture – to Glasgow. But he’s shown the makings of someone who’s outgrown the country of his birth and is on course to potentially tear it up in Europe.

In other Rangers news, as well as Igamane, another player has flown into the UK to complete a medical and sign for the Light Blues.
