Kieran Trippier has informed Newcastle he wants to leave as Everton wait in the wings to sign him, according to the Telegraph.
The news outlet reported on 22 August that the England right-back is pushing for an exit from St James’ Park before the transfer deadline.
Atalanta, Galatasaray and West Ham are all keen on securing the services of the 33-year-old who’s on more than £120,000-a-week at the Magpies.
Everton must look at alternatives to Kieran Trippier
At 33, Trippier’s age is a significant concern for long-term investment, especially in a position like right-back where physical demands are high.
Everton already have Ashley Young, 39, and Seamus Coleman, 35, in their squad, indicating a lack of youth and future-proofing in this position.
Adding another ageing full-back would further skew their squad age profile, potentially leaving them in a precarious situation in the coming seasons.
Moreover, wages of over £120,000 per week are excessively high for a player of his age and current market value, especially considering the Toffees’ financial constraints and the need to manage their wage bill effectively.
Given these factors, pursuing Trippier could be seen as a short-term fix that might not align with Everton’s long-term squad planning or financial prudence.
While the Newcastle player can play as a left-back too, the club are better off signing a specialist left-back to provide competition to Vitalii Mykolenko.
In other Everton news, Alan Myers has issued an update on Dele Alli signing a new deal at Goodison Park.
