Pundit View: Tottenham outsider to be handed early first-team chance in pre-season

Troy Parrott will be handed an opportunity to prove himself at Tottenham during pre-season, Paul Robinson has said.

The 22-year-old spent the 2023/24 campaign away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, joining Eredivisie side Excelsior on loan, where he scored 17 goals in 32 matches.

With just four senior appearances to his name at Spurs, the young forward looks to have finally showcased his raw talent and has been predicted to be given a chance under Ange Postecoglou.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “He had a great season on loan. It’ll be interesting to see what pre-season tells us, though that won’t get underway for a while due to the Euro 2024 players not coming back.

“I think he’ll come back into the Tottenham set-up a lot earlier than the other players, and should be given an opportunity during pre-season in games. It’s up to him to hit the ground running.

“The manager will have perceived ideas of what he wants, and what he expects of him, but it’s up to the player to come back in pre-season and take his opportunity while players are away. I think Postecoglou will be open-minded about his future because he’ll know what he did on loan last season.

“He’ll also know the quality of the player, so I don’t think there will be any pre-emptive decisions made about him just yet ahead of next season.”

Spurs continue to attempt to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich last summer, and while Parrott is unlikely to arrive at the same potential, he could have a good career at the club.

The young striker ended his loan spell with a hat-trick in the Eredivisie relegation play-off final but was still unable to keep Excelsior in the top division despite his impressive display.

He has certainly earned himself an opportunity in front of the Spurs crowd, though there is still a chance that the club decide to cash in on him this summer if the right suitor comes along.
