Queens Park turn down SFA offer at Hampden after Rangers agreement - report

Queens Park have turned down the chance to ground share with Rangers at Hampden Park at the start of next season, according to the Daily Record.

It is reported that Queens Park owner Willie Haughey has agreed to “press pause” on their return to Hampden in the spirit of “cooperation and goodwill.”

The Championship side turned down an offer from the Scottish FA that would have allowed them to carry on playing at the national stadium.

John Bennett has even spoken to Haughey with the pair agreeing that two teams playing on the pitch for an extended period of time could lead to too much wear and tear in the long run.

Rangers set to start season in Hampden Park

It finally seems as if the Ibrox debacle is coming to a close.

Despite the positive changes Rangers have gone through such as players arriving, there has always been the question of where the Gers will play their games to start the season.

Although both Murrayfield and Hampden were discussed, in reality playing games at the latter makes the most sense.

Throughout the saga, there were even talks of Philippe Clement’s side playing at an unfinished Ibrox [Scottish Daily Mail, 5 July, page 120] after talks seemed to hit a stumbling block.

Rangers

This would have been a valid solution but to make things easier and fairer for fans with season tickets, Hampden is no doubt the best choice.

The Ibrox saga has been ongoing and even resulted in a sacking at the club [Scottish Sun, 20 June] and the fact that it’s now somewhat over will no doubt be a relief for everyone involved.

In other Rangers news, Joan Jordan is now closer to a Sevilla exit than ever.
