Rangers face 'Competitive' transfer race to secure midfield gem - report

Rangers are not the only club with an interest in Motherwell gem Lennon Miller during the summer transfer window, according to The Fourth Official.

The outlet reported via its YouTube channel (10 July, 2:00) that the Gers are understood to be keen on signing the teenager having watched him in pre-season [Football Scotland, 10 July], but the race for his signature will be “competitive”.

Philippe Clement’s side are open to selling some of the midfield options already in place in the squad and should funds be raised through those sales, they may then be ready to make a formal offer for Miller this summer.

Speaking on YouTube, The Fourth Official said: “Rangers very much accredited with an interest in the Scotland U21 international Miller who has just one year left on his deal at Motherwell.

“A very similar situation to the situation Motherwell found themselves in with David Turnbull a few seasons ago when he moved to Celtic.

“There are lots of options for Rangers in the midfield at the moment and I think they are very open to doing some business out the way in terms of getting some of them moved on and that may well free up not only some funds but make some space in the squad for Rangers to make a formal offer for Miller.

“It is my understanding that is not just Rangers who are accredited with an interest in Lennon Miller so it will be competitive, like it was for Connor Barron.”

Will Rangers sign Lennon Miller ahead of Premiership competition this summer?

It was never going to be easy for the Gers to win the race for Miller this summer as the teenage talent will have caught the eye of clubs throughout the Premiership and likely some south of the border already.

Pundits and supporters alike have been blown away by the 17-year-old’s displays for Motherwell since he broke into the first team and while some will argue he isn’t ready to play for an Old Firm side, he has shown that he has the skillset to make that step up.

While Barron is an excellent addition to Clement’s midfield, he needs further additions before the Premiership season gets underway especially having lost Ryan Jack and John Lundstram at the start of the window.

Whether or not the Light Blues will have the financial muscle to win the “competitive” battle for his signature remains to be seen. If Premier League sides come knocking, it could be hard for Rangers to tempt him to Ibrox.

Hopefully, the Gers will find a way to get this deal over the line as it would be a shame to see yet another bright Scottish talent pass under the Light Blues’ radar once again.

In other Rangers news, an update has emerged on the Light Blues’ current search for a new CEO to take over from James Bisgrove at Ibrox
