Rangers player in contact with club already, 'low' cost transfer on cards - report

Besiktas are hoping to sign Rangers attacking midfielder Tom Lawrence for a “low” transfer fee this summer, according to Fanatik.

The report on 12 June states that new Besiktas boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst recommended Lawrence to the club’s hierarchy.

The Turkish side are thought to be in contact with the 30-year-old over a potential move already.

Rangers are unlikely to generate a particularly hefty fee for Lawrence if they do sell him this summer.

The attacking midfielder has just one year left on his contract and, combined with the fact that he is now 30, his value has dropped some way from its peak.

Additionally, Rangers’ evident willingness to allow players to leave as head coach Philippe Clement oversees a squad overhaul further weakens the club’s negotiating position.

Lawrence played 1,559 minutes across all competitions in 2023/24 – 14 players managed more, including Sam Lammers, who left on loan midway through the season – scoring three goals and registering three assists.

Injuries played their part in inhibiting his game time but it is clear that Clement does not consider the Welshman an integral part of his plans.

With that being the case, generating any sort of fee for a squad player with just one year remaining on his contract should be considered a net positive.
