Rangers have taken calls over Alex Lowry in recent weeks as the attacker considers leaving the club, according to Football Scotland.
The outlet reported via their website on 6 August that the 21-year-old has been told by Philippe Clement his game time will be limited this season.
While he hasn’t been told outright to find himself a new club but it is thought he is likely to do so for the good of his career.
Lowry spent part of last season on loan at Hearts last term and has made only 14 senior appearances for the Light Blues in the past three years.
Rangers youngster not in Philippe Clement’s plans
Lowry featured in the B Team’s 4-3 win over Middlesbrough on 5 August, scoring the winning penalty, but his involvement there suggests he isn’t long for the club.
Ianis Hagi also played and Clement confirmed in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Dynamo Kyiv qualifier that he is leaving [Rangers Review, 5 August], with a deal believed to be in place to take him to Fiorentina [Digi Sport, 26 July].
The handling of the Romanian has caused much bemusement of Daily Record journalists [Hotline Live, 5 August] but fits a pattern of those without futures being kept away from the first team by the manager.
Sam Lammers was similarly dumped into the B Team before his move to FC Twente [Rangers Review, 8 July] and Clement confirmed Todd Cantwell is training with them after requesting to leave [Sky Sports, 25 July].
Lowry’s career has not developed as anyone would have hoped since he showed some exciting signs as a teenager, with a serious injury interrupting his progress and the Hearts loan not working out.
As with Hagi, Clement hasn’t seemed especially interested in reintegrating players who were sent out on temporary moves by Michael Beale so a departure seems inevitable.
Lowry was supposed to be found another temporary move when his Tynecastle stay was ended early in January but that never happened.
The manager is clearly committed to a clear out at Ibrox but the speed of it is proving an issue, so if there have been calls for Lowry it would seem to be in everyone’s best interests to wrap up a move soon.
In other Rangers news, a club is pushing a Light Blues starter to accept an exit offer but he’s concerned over the potential reaction.
