Philippe Clement’s side are interested in Peterborough United forward Kwame Poku, according to Rangers News.
The digital news outlet reported online (12 November) that Ibrox scouts were in attendance as Poku scored a hattrick in a 6-1 League One victory over Cambridge United at ABAX Stadium on Saturday (9 November).
Scouts from unnamed Premier League and Championship clubs were also in attendance, with Poku out of contract next summer and free to discuss terms with interested parties come January.
However, should English clubs make a move for the 23-year-old, they would be forced to negotiate a development fee with Peterborough United. These rules only apply when players move to clubs within their own borders.
Therefore, Rangers could take advantage of this loophole and sign Poku for a cut-price fee.
Rangers to sign Peterborough United forward Kwame Poku?
This could be an exciting bit of news for Clement and supporters at Ibrox.
Poku has been on fire this season, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists in just 15 League One appearances for Peterborough United. Therefore, he could be exactly what is needed at Ibrox to help alleviate some of the pressure on Clement.
Should they make a move in January, the Gers could look to agree a pre-contract with Poku which might force Peterborough into agreeing a cut-price winter fee as they look to secure some sort of return for their star forward.
Additionally, Rangers could agree on a deal with Poku and then sign the winger for a small development fee at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
Either way, it would be a win-win for the Gers if they could sign Poku for such a small fee.
However, Clement would no doubt want to have a deal secured as soon as possible, in the hope that Poku could come in mid-season and address some glaring issues at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, Cyriel Dessers’ dilemma is now bigger than ever at Ibrox.
