Rangers transfer round-up: Johnson deal latest, 1st-teamer may now be sold

Plenty of focus will turn to Euro 2024 once the tournament kicks off on Friday (14 June), but more than one eye will still be on the latest transfer activity at Rangers.

The Gers have brought in Jefte and Clinton Nsiala so far, while Oscar Cortes has joined permanently, helping to offset the departures of some first-team regulars.

While no incoming or outgoing activity was confirmed on Thursday (13 June), there was still plenty of speculation – the best of which Ibrox News has rounded up in one place.

Ben Johnson transfer ‘impossible’ as Galatasaray twist emerges

Rangers face an “impossible” task of signing West Ham defender Ben Johnson this summer, according to Fotomac.

The Turkish outlet reported [13 June] that the Gers are interested in signing the 24-year-old, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the month, but will be unable to afford the player’s high salary.

Galatasaray have now entered the race for Johnson, with the player’s versatility impressing head coach Okan Buruk, and are willing to offer him an annual salary of £1.7million plus a signing-on fee.

Damian Garcia update emerges as Rangers news drops

Chris Jack has not heard anything surrounding a potential Rangers move for Penarol midfielder Damian Garcia this summer.

Speaking on The Rangers Review’s transfer latest, Jack said that Garcia is one of several potential transfer targets for the Gers this summer, but links closer to home are drying up.

He added that the only reports circulating for any move to Ibrox are coming from Garcia’s end in Uruguay, with noises increasing nearly every week.

Jack said: “I’ve not heard anything from this end over the last couple of weeks to really talk it up.

“There’s been a lot of noise from their end of it, a lot of reports (in Uruguay), as is the case when people know that Rangers are in the market.

“It becomes easy to link Rangers with a whole raft of potential signings, but the Garcia chat has all been coming from that end so I can’t really provide an update on how seriously Rangers were taking it.”

Rangers could accept transfer offer for Ridvan Yilmaz under one condition

Rangers could be tempted to accept an offer for Ridvan Yilmaz, according to the Rangers Review.

It was reported by the news outlet online (13 June) that the Gers are not actively seeking to sell the left-back to fund any transfers this summer.

However, circumstances could change if the right offer arrives.

Like every player at the club, Yilmaz has a price, and while Philippe Clement is planning for life with the 23-year-old, that could change if the club receives an offer “deemed too good to turn down”.

Rangers handed Connor Barron boost as clubs pull out of race

Cagliari and Sassuolo have pulled out of the race to sign Rangers target Connor Barron this summer, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported on 12 June that a source close to the details claims that nothing has been agreed with regard to the destination of the Scottish midfielder.

It’s understood that there are still several clubs keen on securing the services of the 21-year-old on a free transfer.

The report reads: “A source close to the deal last night insisted that nothing had been agreed and there were still several clubs at the table.

“Italian sides Cagliari and Sassuolo were interested but that has cooled as Claudio Ranieri has stepped down from the former and the latter has been relegated from Serie A.

Rangers in last-gasp Nathaniel Adjei push after Anderlecht update

The centre-back is of interest to the Gers and the Belgian giants while their league rivals Genk and Club Brugges have been linked in the past.

Hammarby could demand up to £5million for the Ghanaian this summer with his price said to be fluctuating.

Rangers have recently entered the race while “Anderlecht would like to speed things up” to get a deal done for the 21-year-old soon.

In other Rangers news, an update has been shared on the Ibrox future of goalkeeper Jack Butland.
