'Really Good' - Tom English reacts as Rangers mock Malmo in sarcastic post

Rangers were “really good” away at Malmo as the Light Blues had the last laugh in an online battle around their victory, said Tom English.

The BBC Scotland’s chief sportswriter reacted via X after the Light Blues’ official account sarcastically thanked their European rivals for the “warm welcome” and claimed the Gers were “missing you already” after the excellent 2-0 win.

The message had been in response a video Malmo’s own social media team had posted ahead of the game, saying “we’ve missed you” while highlighting their own 2011 and 2021 victories which respectively left Rangers “in the fourth division” and “in the Europa League final”.

English posted a meme in response to Rangers’ mic-drop response on the way back to Glasgow, while agreeing with a supporter the victory had been “really good”.

Nedim Bajrami stars as Rangers down Malmo

Facing Malmo doesn’t hold many happy memories for the Light Blues but after their first victory against any Swedish opposition this win could be a turning point for Philippe Clement’s men.

A rough start to the season has played out amid disarray off the pitch and a daunting gulf to Celtic being evident already.

But on a night where Nedim Bajrami starred in just his third appearance for the club and Rangers easily could have scored five it was the sort of performance to instil belief into this squad.

Tom English reacted as Rangers made fun of Malmo after their victory.

The Albanian arrived on Transfer Deadline Day but had to wait until after the international break for his debut, which turned out to be a hugely-disappointing half at Dundee United.

But he opened the scoring in the first minute when Cyriel Dessers hit the post and should have had a hat-trick of assists if Vaclav Cerny, Dessers and Neraysho Kasanwirjo had scored golden opportunities.

Philippe Clement’s side were praised for their Europa League victory.

His link-up play with the Nigerian forward in particular was a huge positive, even if Dessers’ finishing was not up to scratch.

But the striker did put in a strong all-round display in a game where Clement was robbed of Hamza Igamane off the bench due to last-minute passport issues [4 Lads Had A Dream, 26 September], and Ross McCausland had the perfect impact off the bench to make the result safe.

In other Rangers news, confirmed news on the January transfer window has emerged which will delight Clement.
