Report: £33m PL player's agents have just contacted Manchester United about summer move

The representatives of one Premier League star have made contact with Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are expected to be active once the window opens, but their priority at the moment is to decide who will be their manager next season – Erik ten Hag or someone else.

Once that is done, Manchester United’s focus will turn to transfers, and they have been contacted by the agents of one player now.

Amadou Onana’s agents have reached out to Manchester United

Amadou Onana is expected to be available for a transfer this summer.

The Belgian joined Everton from Lille in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £33 million (BBC). He had a brilliant debut season at Goodison Park and has since been admired by many clubs.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Onana, while their north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in the 22-year-old midfielder as well.

Now, Manchester United have been thrown into the mix.

GiveMeSport reveal that people who represent Onana have contacted both Arsenal and Manchester United ‘to learn about their transfer plans’ this summer.

The report claims that Everton are open to selling the Belgian. The Toffees would happily move him on if it would help them keep hold of Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite – the latter has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

Onana, who played 37 games in all competitions for Everton last season, still has over three years left on his contract at Goodison Park.

Why Onana could be a game-changer for Manchester United

Manchester United need reinforcements in multiple areas of their pitch.

The Red Devils are likely to prioritise their defence, with Raphael Varane leaving the club and the future of Harry Maguire up in the air. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s injury issues mean a new left-back is a necessity too.

However, Manchester United could do with a new midfielder as well. Sofyan Amrabat is unlikely to be re-signed after his loan spell and Casemiro could be sold too in the coming weeks.

A new defensive midfielder should be high on INEOS’ wish list, and Onana would be an excellent option for the Old Trafford club. He could be a real game-changer.

The Belgian is absolutely rapid, extremely strong and good in the air. He can dominate the midfield on his own and the fact that he’s still only 22 means he will only get better in the coming years.

Under the right manager, Onana could become one of the best midfielders in the country and he could be the main man for United – not just next season but for the better part of the next decade.
