Report: Barcelona are leading race to sign 'incredible' £50m attacker Arsenal really want

According to a recent report, Barcelona are in pole position to land a rumoured Arsenal target this summer.

The Gunners are on the verge of signing Riccardo Calafiori after his impressive showing at Euro 2024 with Italy.

The 22-year-old has already agreed personal terms with a five-year contract set to be signed once the two clubs agree a fee.

Once that deal has been completed, Arsenal could move to sign a very highly-rated winger but Barcelona currently lead the race.

Barcelona lead race to sign Nico Williams

Arsenal have been heavily linked to Spain and Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams over the last few weeks.

The jet-heeled winger has heavily impressed at Euro 2024 and it’s thought Mikel Arteta is really keen on signing Williams.

Though, Arsenal aren’t alone in their interest, as Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are all keeping tabs on him, according to Marca, via Foot Mercato.

Barca are thought to be in pole position at this stage and wonderkid Lamine Yamal really want his compatriot to join forces with him at Camp Nou.

Barcelona remain wary of foreign clubs

Despite the report noting that Barcelona are the favourites, it also claims that the Catalan giants are ‘hesitant’ of foreign clubs.

They fear they could be overtaken in the race for Williams from clubs around Europe and that includes Arsenal.

Premier League suitors will be able to offer a greater financial package to the 2002-born winger, who has been labelled as ‘incredible’, as per The Mirror.

Williams has a release clause of around £50m which could be activated by The Gunners after his Euro 2024 campaign.

In other news, after completing the signing of Riccardo Calafiori, Arsenal now want to sign ‘one of the best’ midfielders in the world.
