Report: Chelsea could now move for 'special' Aston Villa player if they fail to secure £55m transfer

Chelsea and Aston Villa have been two of the biggest spenders in the Premier League this summer, and both sides look set to continue with making transfers.

The west London side remain in the hunt for a striker, with Chelsea working to sign Napoli’s £55m-rated striker Victor Osimhen, whilst Villa lead the chase to sign Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, who could join Unai Emery’s side before Friday’s deadline.

Given how much both teams have already spent this summer, some departures are also likely to be in order, with Villa already linked with a move for Raheem Sterling as Chelsea look to offload the England international.

And the Blues could now move for a Villa star if they fail to bring Osimhen to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea could revive interest in Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea could return to Villa for Jhon Duran if Enzo Maresca’s side miss out on signing Osimhen, with the report stating that the Colombia international is open to leaving Villa Park for the two-time UEFA Champions League winners.

Lauded by Emery as a ‘special’ talent via Bein Sports, West Ham have also moved for Duran this summer, with the South American prospect highly expected to leave Villa amid so much interest from Premier League teams.

Having weathered the storm, though, it had looked like Duran will remain with Villa heading out of the summer transfer window, yet Chelsea could again derail such plans if their bid for Osimhen falls though in the coming days.

Indeed, the transfer saga revolving around Duran has been a long and arduous one, and for Villa fans, they will be happy to see the back of this window given how much speculation has surrounded the 20-year-old attacker.

Villa need to do all they can to keep Duran this week

With Duran taking the no. shirt and scoring in Villa’s Premier League opener against West Ham, it’s safe to say that the attacker looks happy at Villa Park under Emery.

Yet with Chelsea threatening to reignite their interest in the former Chicago Fire star, Villa must do all they can to keep hold of Duran this week, with the transfer window just a few days away from closing.

With the UEFA Champions League coming up next month for Villa, Duran should want to stay and fight for his spot ahead of Europe’s biggest club competition, and the chaos surrounding Chelsea should put the youngster off a move already this summer.
