Report: Everton now close to signing £21m player who said he rejected Liverpool move
❗️
Everton are now close to making another signing after already securing Tim Iroegbunam and Iliman Ndiaye.
The Toffees are looking to improve all over the pitch, with Kevin Thelwell – Director of Football at Goodison Park – eyeing Montpellier No.27 Becir Omeragic to improve the defence, after bolstering the frontline with Ndiaye.
Now, Everton are also close to strengthening the midfield department…
Everton close to signing Jesper Lindstrom
A story from Corriere dello Sport (live blog for Thursday 18th July – 10:45am) now claims that Everton are close to signing Napoli No.29 Jesper Lindstrom.
The Italian news outlet believe the Denmark international is one step away from joining the Toffees on loan for the 2024/25 campaign, with Everton also negotiating an option to make the deal permanent next summer for €25m (£21m).
Lindstrom endured a tough 2023/24 campaign with Napoli, making just two starts in Serie A as the Italian giants finished tenth – in what was an embarrassing defence of their title.
Nevertheless, the Dane is still a highly rated player, and should not be judged on a poor season in which many big names at Napoli also struggled.
Lindstrom shone so brightly for Eintracht Frankfurt that Napoli decided to spend £25m to bring him to Naples in August 2023 – fresh from winning the Serie A title.
Therefore, despite failing to score and providing just one assist in 32 appearances last season, the 24-year-old has not just become a bad player overnight.
Everton fans will already love the Denmark international
Lindstrom has already done something that Everton fans will love – reject a move to Liverpool.
The man from Taastrup actually admitted this in an interview with Tipsbladet, where he also revealed that he supports Liverpool.
Lindstrom said: “There was Liverpool, but would I get playing time? Would it be smart to go to Liverpool? I’m a Liverpool fan, so, it would also be an insanely cool experience, but if I’m not playing, I might as well sit and watch them on TV for another club.”
While the fact he supports Liverpool is not going to win him brownie points at Goodison Park, the fact he rejected the Reds in favour of playing time should interest Everton fans, as it shows he has his head firmly screwed on, and just wants to play football.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Everton are close to signing Lindstrom on an initial loan deal.
