Report: Newcastle could now quickly make an offer to sign 'world-class' player for free

Newcastle United and Manchester United endured contrasting fortunes in the summer transfer window.

Lewis Hall’s loan move from Chelsea was made permanent, while the likes of Odysseas Vlachodimos, William Osula and Lloyd Kelly joined the club.

The Magpies can take solace from the fact that they didn’t lose any of their big hitters like Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon, but they failed to add bonafide matchwinners to their squad.

Manchester United, on the other hand, got Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte through the door at Old Trafford.

The transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs can still snap up free agents.

And now, it appears as if both Newcastle and Manchester United are weighing up an offer for Adrien Rabiot, who is without a club since leaving Juventus earlier this year.

According to Le Figaro, Rabiot is still in demand despite not being able to find a club in the summer transfer window, with Newcastle and Man Utd expected to ‘quickly draw an offer’ for him.

Barcelona have also been credited with an interest, but the Catalan giants are in financial turmoil and do not have the power to compete with the two Premier League sides.

The report also states that the French international is managed by his mother, who is demanding around £8.5m per year from interested clubs for her son.

What next for Rabiot?

The 29-year-old was labelled as a ‘world-class’ player by Juventus legend David Trezeguet in an interview with Football Italia in 2022.

However, two years later, he finds himself at a bit of a crossroads after leaving the Serie A side as a free agent.

Rabiot was linked with a move to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, but the Saudi Pro League side never pressed ahead with their interest.

With Arne Slot in desperate need of a central midfielder after missing out on Martin Zubimendi, Rabiot was also mentioned as a potential target for Liverpool.

However, with Newcastle and Man Utd ready to press ahead with their interest, his long wait to find a new club might just be close to coming to an end.
