Report shares Lammers preferred transfer outcome after Rangers return

Rangers attacking midfielder Sam Lammers would prefer a summer transfer back to Holland ahead of Turkey, according to The Fourth Official.

The outlet reported via its YouTube channel on Tuesday (2 July) that the Dutchman is eager to remain in the Netherlands following his successful long spell with Utrecht during the second half of last season.

Philippe Clement’s side are ready to part ways with the 27-year-old this summer and reports have suggested that AZ Alkmaar are ready to table a £2.5million bid to secure his services [Football Scotland, 2 July].

Speaking on YouTube, The Fourth Official said: “We spoke on the show a few days ago that he also had some interest from Turkey, but it is my understanding that Lammers and his team prefer a move back to Holland having done so well in that sixth-month spell at Utrecht last season.”

Will Sam Lammers exit Rangers in summer transfer window at Ibrox?

It is interesting to see Lammers isn’t at all interested in a move to Turkey this summer given the amount of Rangers players who have made the move across Europe over the last few seasons, but he is obviously set on an Eredivisie return.

You can’t really blame the Dutchman as his form in the second half of the season was exceptional whilst on loan with Utrecht. He will believe that he can repeat those heroics should his move to AZ be given the green light.

For whatever reason, the 27-year-old was never really able to find his feet in Glasgow as the pressure from the club and the supporters appeared to get to him. Some players just aren’t cut out to play for an Old Firm side.

While some will suggest his form whilst on loan was enough to warrant him being handed another chance under Clement, it really doesn’t feel as though there is any way back for Lammers in a Rangers shirt.

Hopefully, his exit can be agreed upon quickly so that the Gers can pocket the cash and reinvest it back into the playing squad this summer. A move to AZ seems to be the perfect fit for all parties involved.
