Report: There is now a growing belief £34m player will join Liverpool despite Manchester United interest
????
Liverpool and Manchester United are the two great rivals of English football – with both now competing over a matter off the pitch.
While the Reds and the Red Devils have experienced many exhilarating clashes on the field, the pair are now jostling to sign the same player away from the pitch as we enter the final days of the summer transfer window.
Despite Manchester United interest – however – there is now a growing belief that one of Europe’s most talented players will join Liverpool…
Giorgi Mamardashvili expected to join Liverpool despite Manchester United temptation
A story from the Mirror now provides some interesting new details about Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The Georgia international is being targeted by Liverpool in a unique deal, which will see him loaned out until Alisson Becker relinquishes the No.1 shirt at Anfield.
Fabrizio Romano has already revealed that Mamardashvili has agreed personal terms with Liverpool – a detail reinforced by the Mirror – but new details have emerged.
The Mirror explain that the Valencia No.25 is actually still open to joining Manchester United despite his agreement with Liverpool, as Erik ten Hag aims to sign competition for Andre Onana.
It is also said that Liverpool and Valencia are currently £4m apart on a fee, with the Reds unwilling to spend £34m on the Georgian, which is the Spanish side’s asking price.
However, this £4m sum could be bridged in instalments, with the Mirror crucially adding that there is now a growing belief that Mamardashvili will become Arne Slot’s first signing at Liverpool, despite the presence of Manchester United.
Where the Reds could send the Georgia international
As aforesaid, Liverpool are expected to immediately loan the 23-year-old out if a deal does materialise.
A story from Super Deportes states that Liverpool could send Mamardashvili on loan to Bournemouth – which would be a fine move for the glovesman, as it will expose him to the physicality of the Premier League, something the likes of David de Gea famously struggled with after swapping Spain for England.
Alisson still has two years remaining on his contract – which expires in July 2027 – so it is possible that Liverpool keep the Georgian out on loan until then, as the Brazil international is the subject of firm interest from Saudi Arabia.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Liverpool are expected to sign Mamardashvili despite late interest from Manchester United.
