Revealed: West Ham plot two more key signings after star's exit completed for free

West Ham are planning to sign a new face at right-back and in central midfield before the end of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Irons have already added teenage sensation Luis Guilherme and Wolves captain Max Kilman to Julen Lopetegui’s squad for big money this summer.

It is believed Tim Steidten and the Irons’ recruitment team are working overtime to bring a marquee new forward to the London Stadium.

Ben Johnson has left West Ham to join Ipswich Town as a free agent in recent days and the London side are keen to replace him with a new natural right-back.

Johnson has also played multiple midfield roles in a back-up capacity in recent seasons.

Thilo Kehrer, who also regularly played for the Irons at right-back, has left to join Monaco on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile, Kalvin Phillips has returned to Man City after a disastrous loan spell at West Ham.

Phillips was drafted into the squad by David Moyes earlier this year as he believed the midfield needed extra depth – and that is a sentiment echoed by Lopetegui and Steidten.

Vladimir Coufal is now the club’s only natural right-back – while James Ward-Prowse, Tomas Soucek, Edson Alvarez and Flynn Downes are all options in midfield.

West Ham will not play in Europe in the 2024-25 campaign but it is nevertheless believed the squad depth is lacking as Lopetegui plans an assault on the top half of the Premier League table.

The Irons kick off the new season at home against Aston Villa on 17 August.
