'Ridiculous' - Chris Sutton explodes at Everton fan over Nottm Forest claim

Chris Sutton had a heated clash with an Everton fan who suggested the Blues are a better team than high-flying Nottingham Forest.

The Toffees suffered their first defeat in five on Saturday 2 November as an Adam Armstrong goal handed Southampton a 1-0 win at St Mary’s.

Despite this, one supporter called the 606 Football Phone In (2 November) and suggested that Everton should be “sixth or seventh” in the Premier League.

Sutton took issue with this as he said: “Let’s just look at the league table. Liverpool, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Brighton. Are you better than any of those teams? No, I’ll answer that for you.

“Just a yes or no, are you better than Liverpool?”

The fan was quick to reply: “No.”

This continued as Sutton asked: “Manchester City?”

“No.”

“Nottingham Forest?”

“Yes.”

This response didn’t go down well as the Premier League winner replied: “Ridiculous.”

After a poor start to the season, it had finally felt as if the Toffees had found their feet and were looking towards a positive finish.

This has seen wins against the likes of Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town while securing a late point against Fulham last time out.

It was back down to earth for Everton against the Saints with a 1-0 defeat despite having plenty of chances on the day.

A frustrating day for Sean Dyche and Co. as his side should have taken all three points from the coast but just weren’t clinical enough.

Even if that is the case, to suggest that the Toffees are better than Nottingham Forest right now and certainly aren’t good enough to be fighting for the European places.

There is a lot of potential in the side with the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil having positive starts to the campaign but Dyche’s side aren’t at that top level quite yet.
