Rival transfer confirmed after club priced out of hunt for Rangers ace the coach wanted - report

FC Utrecht have signed Noah Ohio after being priced out of a move to bring Sam Lammers back from Rangers, according to Voetbal Zone.

The Dutch outlet reported via their website on 8 July that the Eredivisie side’s coach Ron Jans would have preferred to have the Light Blues forward back, after he scored 11 goals during half a season on loan last term.

But the 27-year-old proved to be “financially unfeasible” this summer, leading technical director Jordy Zuidam to pivot to Ohio, the 21-year-old former Hull City loanee, from Standard Liege, with his arrival now confirmed.

Rangers are believed to be hoping to make a profit on the £3.5million [Daily Record] the paid last year, with multiple clubs believed to be interested as well as FC Utrecht according to Rangers Review on 29 May, while Ohio was much cheaper at €1.5m [£1.27m].

FC Utrecht buy Hull City loanee with Rangers too expensive

It was known to be a stretch for Utrecht to come back and do a permanent deal for Lammers after his record-breaking loan spell with the club.

But it is nonetheless a blow to the Ibrox hierarchy’s plans of moving him on for a decent fee for the most obvious potentially buyer to be out of the race.

The Dutchman has been left to train with the B Team with the club desperate to move him on, according to Stevie Clifford via Rangers Review on 8 July.

But since Philippe Clement clearly has no use for him it makes it a buyer’s market and may make the likes of FC Twente less willing to put a strong bid on the table.

Cyriel Dessers
Cyriel Dessers could also leave Rangers this summer after just one season in Glasgow.

Cyriel Dessers may have ended up far surpassing Lammers’ poor return of two goals, netting 22 times as the top striking option last term, but could also be sold amid growing interest this summer [Chris Jack, 3 July].

Hamza Igamane has come in as a very highly-rated young option in attack, while Danilo’s return from injury has been tipped by Kris Boyd to be crucial next term [Scottish Sun, 5 July].

However, it seems clear that Clement largely wants to bring in his own people after inheriting Michael Beale’s purchases, but that becomes all the more difficult if he doesn’t have the space or the budget because the incumbents are still stuck at the club.

In other Rangers news, another first-team ace is set for a permanent exit with a medical now expected.
