Rangers 1st-team ace to travel for medical after Clement sanctioned another exit - report

Robby McCrorie is set for a medical with Kilmarnock after Philippe Clement sanctioned his Rangers exit, Football Scotland reports.

According to the outlet’s website on 9 July the Ibrox keeper is set to fly back from the Gers’ Dutch training camp for tests and “thrashing out personal terms” with the Scottish Premiership club, where he is expected to “kickstart” his career with a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old has only made seven first-team appearances for the club despite coming through the academy, and rejected a contract extension earlier this summer [Daily Record, 4 June].

He will join the likes of John Lundstram and Borna Barisic, who have both joined Trabzonspor, as well as Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe as permanent Ibrox departures this summer, while former Motherwell man Liam Kelly has been brought back to cover for McCrorie’s exit.

McCrorie clearly needs a move since he was overlooked a year ago for the number one spot in the Rangers line up despite a solid audition under Michael Beale as Allan McGregor headed for retirement.

Jack Butland was instead brought in on a free from Crystal Palace in one of the best moves the club has made in years and, assuming the Englishman stays this summer, he will not be displaced as the starter.

With Kelly secured as a cheap back-up any fee brought in from Kilmarnock for McCrorie will help boost Clement’s budget as he and Nils Koppen look to overhaul the squad.

Virtually all of the first team squad, aside from perhaps Butland and Dujon Sterling, could move on this summer, with the club “desperate” to shift the likes of Sam Lammers [Rangers Review, 8 July] to free up space and cash to make signings.

Philippe Clement has brought in Liam Kelly to replace Robby McCrorie at Rangers.

There are a host of other high-profile candidates to depart, including the likes of captain James Tavernier and Connor Goldson, top striker from last term Cyriel Dessers, and former Beale star Todd Cantwell [Rangers Review, 3 July].

Assuming there are no late hitches with McCrorie’s move the Light Blues will likely hope it can kickstart a series of sales, with plenty of work still to be done before the start of the new season.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have had a “really fair” offer snubbed due to “bad blood” with a rival club over a new signing.
