Ross McCausland blown away by new Rangers signing after what he did in pre-season

Rangers signing Jefte has already made an impression on the training pitch, according to his team-mate Ross McCausland.

Speaking to Daily Record reporter Andy Newport during the Gers’ pre-season training camp in the Netherlands, McCausland said that Jefte and his fellow new arrivals have already “gelled together”.

Discussing Jefte’s assist for him in a 5-2 ‘bounce game’ friendly win over Hamilton, McCausland said the Brazilian left-back knew where his wing-man would be to score and is hitting the ground running.

He said: “The new boys have come in and just gelled together. That’s one of the main things, so that when the season starts, we already have a month together.

“Even on the training pitch, it’s knowing how your team-mates are playing. If you see our goal the other day, Jefte ran down the line and gave it into the back post and I was there.

“Things like that, you see in training and it goes into the games.”

Ross McCausland and Jefte both hoping for starting Rangers roles

Youth first has been the transfer policy at Ibrox this summer, perhaps best shown by Jefte being confirmed as the Gers’ first new signing before the previous campaign had even finished.

Following their season-ending defeat at the hands of Old Firm rivals Celtic, veteran left-back Borna Barisic – 11 years Jefte’s elder – was ushered out of the door alongside four other senior players.

Ross McCausland and new signing Jefte are already establishing a partnership on the flanks at Rangers

Jefte’s early pre-season showings could see him stake a claim to be Philippe Clement’s first choice on the left side of defence next season, usurping Ridvan Yilmaz in the pecking order at Ibrox [Gokmen Ozcan, 10 June].

Further ahead of him could well be McCausland, who after a breakthrough season in 2023/24, has seen his own chances of a starting role increase after the departure of several other wide players.

Oscar Cortes’ return on loan is the only additional on the flanks so far this summer, and if McCausland can continue to develop his newfound relationship with Jefte on the left, Clement’s opening-day headache out wide might just have been solved already.
