Roy Keane & Ian Wright clash over West Ham v Everton prediction

Roy Keane and Ian Wright disagreed over Everton ahead of the Toffees’ visit to West Ham United this weekend.

Keane, on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast [7 November, 1:02:50] alongside Wright, Gary Neville, Jill Scott and David Moyes who managed both clubs across 17 years, predicted a 1-1 draw for Saturday’s game [9 November].

Wright quickly chimed in, claiming Sean Dyche’s side will take all three points at the London Stadium with a 1-0 win [Everton.News, 7 November] while Gary Neville opted for a 2-2 draw, backed by Moyes.

Keane said: “There’s always a twist … West Ham need a result, don’t they.”

Wright responded: “They’re not playing well. I’d have gone [with] Everton to win.”

Moyes also said: “Everton are not easy to beat. I know they lost 1-0 to Southampton [2 November], but they are usually hard to play against.”

Everton must take advantage of poor West Ham form

While Everton sit below West Ham in the Premier League table by two points and two places, their form has largely improved whereas the Hammers are held to a higher standard by neutrals due to their summer spending.

It has not been plain sailing, however, for Julen Lopetegui after his side were easily swept aside by Nottingham Forest just as the Toffees suffered their first defeat in six at Southampton.

Both clubs will view the weekend clash as an ideal way to respond, and if the result is poor either way, it will be a long international break for the staff to mull over.

The Blues can take advantage of the hosts who have a double suspension issue, as Mohammed Kudus remains out alongside Edson Alvarez, who could have been key but was sent off at Forest.

Dyche on the other hand is under pressure to reintroduce Jarrad Branthwaite to the starting XI, after benching him at St Mary’s last weekend in favour of Michael Keane.

In other Everton news, the potential of Leighton Baines as a future Toffees manager is discussed.
