Senior ace relegated to B Team by 'Desperate' Rangers as transfer exit expected - report

Sam Lammers has been left training with the B Team at Rangers since players returned for preseason, according to Stevie Clifford.

The man behind 4 Lads Had A Dream told Rangers Review’s Morning Briefing on 8 July that the Dutch forward is “certainly” not involved in the first-team set up after returning from his FC Utretcht loan, and may feature for the reserve side in the coming days.

But while his transfer exit is expected the fact that the Light Blues are “desperate” to move players on is thought to be hindering hopes of getting a full transfer fee.

Clifford said (29m 40s): “Sam Lammers has been training with the B Team since the team’s come back at the start of last week, so there’s no sign of Sam Lammers.

“I think it’s fair to say that he’s been told his time at Rangers is over. As for a fee coming in this is where it gets problematic as Rangers are pretty desperate to get rid of players.”

He added: “He is still at Rangers, he’s training with the B squad, and as to my knowledge he’ll most likely play against Blackpool in the next couple of days as well. He’s certainly not involved in the first, that’s for sure.”

Sam Lammers outside in the cold at Rangers ahead of Ibrox exit

Lammers’ move to Ibrox proved to be a major disappointment last season and means there is surely little left for him at the club.

His loan move to FC Utrecht in the second half of last season was hugely positive however and after 11 goals for the Eredivisie side a permanent exit is clearly the best option for the 27-year-old and the Light Blues, having generated hopes of actually making a profit on his sale [Rangers Review, 29 May].

Utrecht were ready to push to bring him back but it appears they have decided to go in a different direction, confirming a deal to sign Noah Ohio on 8 July after seemingly deciding Lammers was outside their budget.

It would represent a huge frustration for Philippe Clement and Rangers to have a senior forward like Lammers kicking about in the B Team rather than securing a sale, especially when there is believed to be interest from multiple clubs in the Netherlands and elsewhere.

If he has been excluded from the first-team set up for preseason training then it surely rules out any chance that the manager could look to use him again.

So a sale needs to be done sooner rather than later, allowing and funds to be put back into the transfer window to secure new signings.

Michael Beale signed Lammers for £3.5million [Daily Record] last year despite him having scored a total of nine goals over the previous four seasons combined.

So, allowing for the fact that the former manager’s decision proved to be a bad one, it is no surprise the Gers would hope to bring in more than that after he then scored 11 in the space of six months, yet clearly so far they haven’t been able to.

In other Rangers news, recent developments have suggested that a hugely-significant deal to bring back Abdallah Sima may now be on the cards.
