Philippe Clement’s job at Rangers could be safe for now due to a lack of leadership above him to make the decision, according to Simon Jordan.
Speaking on talkSPORT with Jim White (31 October, 10:27am), Jordan queried that with no permanent chairman or chief executive officer in the Ibrox boardroom, who exactly would give Clement the sack.
John Gilligan is serving as interim chairman after John Bennett’s resignation, but Jordan wasn’t convinced the current hierarchy have the authority to dispose of Clement and hire a capable successor.
He said: “The lack of leadership at the top – if there’s no leadership and no chairman and no CEO – then who’s going to bloody fire him, If he is indeed to be fired.”
“(But) Philippe Clement’s team are not not functioning on the field because there’s no chairman or CEO.”
Who would Rangers hire to replace Philippe Clement?
It’s become increasingly clear in recent weeks that fans and pundits alike are coming to the end of their tethers with Clement, with calls for his sacking coming to a head after the Gers’ 2-1 loss at Aberdeen.
Regardless of the Light Blues still being a massive, massive club, the way they are currently operating both on and off the pitch makes stepping into the breach hardly an attractive proposition.
With a new chairman, CEO and director of football operations all needing to be appointed at Ibrox, any new manager would only be the next person in the firing line to cover for a rudderless boardroom.
Furthermore, £17million in recently-announced losses made by the club last season doesn’t bode well for the prospect of future transfer funds, with Clement severely hampered during his summer rebuild.
As a result, Clement looks set to stay put in Glasgow for the time being when all the signs point towards a change of manager being the right thing – but as fans have already pointed out, the rot at Rangers goes far beyond the Belgian’s decisions in the dugout.
In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd has predicted what fans will do at Ibrox if the Light Blues’ form doesn’t improve quickly.
