Sources: Club open preliminary talks to sign Man City big name

Atletico Madrid have opened preliminary talks to sign Man City midfielder Matheus Nunes on a loan-to-buy deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The negotiations are still in the early stages, but the Spanish outfit are keen on bringing him to the club.

Man City are willing to either permanently sell or loan Nunes before Friday after bringing Ilkay Gundogan back to England.

The 25-year-old has struggled to secure regular playing time after he joined Pep Guardiola’s team from Wolves last August for £53million.

Football Insider revealed that Man City have placed an asking price of more than £40million on the midfielder.

However, City are willing to let Nunes leave the club on loan to get him off the wage bill this summer.

Nunes had been a regular in his final season for Wolves, where he started in 34 out of 41 games for the club.

His opportunities have become rare since joining City as he only featured 19 times in the league last season, with 10 of those coming from the bench.

Game time has been limited already this season for Nunes, who has played one minute in the first two Premier League fixtures.

The Portugal international is under contract at the Etihad until 2028, but City are prepared to cut their losses with him.

Nunes isn’t the only player that Man City are trying to offload before the transfer window ends, as Joao Cancelo is expected to depart the Etihad.

Football Insider revealed that Al Hilal are in advanced talks to sign the 30-year-old, as they are working on a £21million deal.
