Southampton are in advanced talks to sign Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto, sources have told Football Insider.
An official bid has been submitted with this being seen as a priority deal for the Saints before the transfer window closes.
Sources at Southampton are “confident” that an agreement will take place before Friday’s cut-off.
Southampton lost Che Adams earlier this summer as he moved to Torino, with the Saints looking to find a replacement for the Scotland international.
Adams scored 17 goals in all competitions last season, which Russell Martin is looking to replicate with a new signing.
Southampton believe Yuri Alberto can fire them to success in the Premier League
Alberto had a positive 2023-24 campaign, as he scored 17 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a proven goalscorer throughout his career, finding the back of the net 83 times in 253 games.
Alberto is under contract with Corinthians until 2027, putting his current club in a strong negotiating position.
Scoring goals has proven to be a problem so far for the Saints, as Martin’s team are yet to score in their opening two Premier League games.
The Saints have lost both of their matches so far this season 1-0.
