'Terrible' - Four Lads issues swipe at senior figure amid behind-the-scenes chaos at Rangers

Rangers chairman John Bennett has been slammed by Four Lads Had a Dream’s Stevie Clifford for his lack of correspondence with the fanbase.

Given the behind-the-scenes chaos with regard to the delays at Ibrox, Bennett failed to address the supporters until quite recently.

This certainly has not gone down well despite his recent apology on 11 July and confirmation that there’s no fixed date for returning to Ibrox.

Clifford wrote on Rangers Review on 13 July: “John Bennett has been plunged into a terrible situation with shipping delays making Ibrox unplayable at the start of this season after planned works in the Copland Road stand. Still, as chairman, he should never have allowed the situation to develop like this and hasn’t responded well enough in the eyes of many supporters.

“It’s been nearly two years since we last heard from Bennett which in itself isn’t good enough and something we all agree needs to improve. Whilst you can’t respond to everything, you must react to some events.

“The role of chairman at Rangers requires you to be front and centre, leading the club. It’s a very hands-on position.”

Bennett’s lack of communication and the resulting criticism highlights a significant issue at the club.

As chairman, he is expected to be the public face of the club, leading and engaging with the fanbase, especially during challenging times.

His recent apology and lack of updates on the Copland Road stand delays have left many supporters frustrated and feeling disconnected from the club’s leadership.

The role of chairman at a club like Gers is indeed hands-on, requiring active engagement with the fans, especially during crises.

Bennett’s failure to address the fanbase in a timely manner has not only added to the frustration surrounding the stadium delays but has also raised questions about his leadership and the board’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

For the club to progress, the board, including Bennett, must prioritise closer engagement with the fanbase and things need to change sooner rather than later.
