Rangers have seen an offer to sign Joan Jordan on loan rejected by Sevilla, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer journalist reported via his personal X account [13 July] that the LaLiga side have no plans to cover part of the player’s salary, which the Gers require for the loan deal to happen.

It is understood that the transfer is currently off, with Jordan, who is under contract until 2027, expected to stay with Sevilla next season as things stand.

Rangers see deal for Joan Jordan rejected by Sevilla

With almost 200 appearances for Sevilla since arriving from Eibar in 2019, Jordan has an incredible amount of experience on his CV.

Despite this, the 30-year-old midfielder only made four LaLiga starts for Sevilla last term, with only four more league appearances coming from the bench.

It seems strange that the Spanish side would turn down a loan proposal, considering his lack of minutes last season, but the club’s ongoing financial issues could mean they are more open to a permanent move this summer.

Star striker Youssef En-Nesyri looks set to leave the Spanish side in order to help balance the books, with several clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia vying for his signature.

Rangers may have to do more if they are to secure Jordan’s signature, adding a defensive midfielder to Philippe Clement’s squad – an important move after Ryan Jack’s and John Lundstram’s exits earlier this summer.

The Gers are currently in the middle of a giant rebuild at the hands of Clement and Nils Koppen, with the likes of Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Jefte all signed on cheap deals.

The addition of Jordan makes a lot of sense for Clement’s midfield, with a lot of youth in the team. For now, though, a deal does not look likely to go through at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, details of the Gers’ Hampden Park stay have emerged as the club close in on a deal.
