Nils Koppen is working “round the clock” on the Rangers transfer window but the summer business is likely to go down “to the wire”, according to Andy Devlin.

The Scottish Sun journalist told the paper’s YouTube show from the Light Blues’ Dutch preseason camp on 12 July that he doesn’t expect any deals to be imminent as the situation is likely to “go the distance”.

Recruitment director Koppen is said to be “constantly” on his phone or computer as the work going into the transfer window is evident in the Netherlands but it is predicted to continue right down towards the deadline.

If Mohamed Diomande’s loan being made permanent is included the Gers have made seven signings this summer but Philippe Clement still wants to add experience to his largely-youthful haul so far [BBC Sport, 29 June].

Philippe Clement wants senior Rangers signings from Nils Koppen

The Rangers transfer window becoming bogged down is perhaps unsurprising when Clement and Koppen are likely needing to shift a number of senior players before key deals can be done.

Landing a host of moves for players who will largely flesh out squad depth and look to improve as time passes was certainly a positive step early.

But aside from arguably Connor Barron and Oscar Cortes there looks to be minimal threat to the starting XI from those who have come in so far.

Clement has publicly stated that centre-back Clinton Nsiala and striker Hamza Igamane are ones for the future [Rangers Review, 11 July] to leave both positions as areas which appear in clear need of a high-profile senior addition among others.

But amid reported interest in the likes of Connor Goldson [Scottish Sun, 30 June], Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers [Rangers Review, 3 July] it is probably that the Light Blues need to make sales before they can bring replacements in.

And with the finances repeatedly strained in recent seasons by the failure to win the Scottish Premiership while sacking managers and making signings for the next man in it is necessary to secure decent exit fees, which looks to be easier said than done at present.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are now in pursuit of an “unbelievable” ace to add to the transfer haul.
