Andy Newport accused Robin Propper of being “bullied” as Rangers edged past St Mirren at Ibrox on Sunday (27 October).
Daily Record journalist Newport was discussing the contest in its aftermath live from the stadium on Record Sport’s Hotline [27 October].
Propper has been criticised for his display as Philippe Clement’s side did just enough to earn the three points ahead of Wednesday’s (30 October) huge clash at Aberdeen.
“The decision that needs to be made is over Robin Propper – he got bullied at times,” Newport said.
“He had a torrid nightmare. Whether or not he starts [moving forward], there’s some real doubt.
“If it wasn’t for Leon Balogun bailing out Robin Propper a couple of times, Rangers could have been in real trouble.”
Rangers could drop Robin Propper for Aberdeen visit
Rangers’ visit to Pittodrie is already a must-win, and every player needs to be at it or the season and Clement’s future is on the line.
Propper along with others have been scolded for some of their inconsistencies throughout the campaign so far.
At home to St Mirren, some mistakes may be excused as long as the result is yielded but away at an unbeaten, in-form Aberdeen side who have become challengers in their own right to date, certain lapses just will not wash.
The signing of Propper was intended to add some experience to a squad which had lost plenty of it during the summer overhaul at Ibrox.
However, the former FC Twente man’s erratic moments at the weekend have inspired little confidence with all eyes on the midweek tussle.
This is exactly the occasion players like Propper were signed for in the summer, so let’s just hope he comes good if he is indeed given the nod at Pittodrie.
