Transfer expert speculates Man City U-turn on potential big-money signing from Everton

Bryan King claims Manchester City could make a big-money offer for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

The ex-Goodison scout doesn’t think Pep Guardiola’s side would have any issue matching the Toffees’ asking price for the centre-back.

As reported by Manchester Evening News (3 July), the Premier League champions are not currently interested in making an offer for Branthwaite.

However, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – has suggested that could yet change.

“I don’t think City will have any problem paying the money,” King said.

“They have signed an expensive defender from Everton before, there is no reason why they can’t do it again.

“However, City are pretty solid through the middle, do they need Branthwaite? I’m not surprised that he isn’t a major priority for them at the moment.

“We shall see what happens though, as things could change.”

While City might not be interested at the moment, the reports imply that they are at the very least a fan of Branthwaite.

Therefore, should they face any unexpected changes this summer, they could find themselves in the market for a brand-new defender.

And if that were to happen, Branthwaite might be one of the names they consider.

That could be both a good and bad thing for the Toffees.

While City reigniting any lingering interest in Branthwaite might mean they are likely to lose the 22-year-old, it could also mean that they will receive a big cash boost.

City have demonstrated in the past that if they want a player, they will do whatever it takes.

And from that point of view, that could be a good thing for Everton considering their troubled finances.
