Troy Deeney has been proven exactly right about Kai Havertz after what happened in Arsenal vs Sporting

Arsenal secured themselves an emphatic victory in the Champions League against Sporting CP on Tuesday night.

Mikel Arteta’s side will have returned to north London with a huge smile on their faces after putting the Portuguese outfit to the sword.

Considering the difficulties which Manchester City experienced in Lisbon just a matter of weeks ago, Arsenal made light work of Ruben Amorim’s former side.

There were five different goalscorers for the Gunners on Tuesday night with Bukayo Saka hailing Martin Odegaard’s efforts on the night.

However, it was Kai Havertz who proved Troy Deeney’s recent comments correct with his performance against the Portuguese outfit.

Speaking earlier in the month on The Stomping Ground, the former Watford striker claimed the Arsenal striker was better than Sporting’s in-form Swede.

“Kai Havertz is miles better than Gyokeres. “I’m not a Kai Havertz striker fan, but the kid scores goals,” he said.

On Tuesday night, Deeney may well feel as if the German forward proved his point correct as he returned one of the five goals for the Gunners.

It proved to be an easy victory for the north London side on the night, but Havertz has been criticised by Micah Richards in recent weeks.

However, scoring for the eighth time this season – second in the Champions League – may have just silenced some of the critics with Deeney’s provided more weight.

Kai Havertz outshone Viktor Gyokeres in Lisbon

The hard work was done by Saka in the build-up to Havertz’s goal on Tuesday night but the German had to be in the right place at the right time.

But it was not just in finding the back of the net which separated the two forwards on the night with Havertz offering his side a much more well-rounded display.

There is no doubting Gyokeres’ returns in front of goal this season but the Swede proved fairly ineffective on the game against the Gunners.

Arsenal are strongly linked with Gyokeres ahead of the summer, so it will be interesting to see whether their interest lessened after Tuesday’s display.
