David Raya joined Arsenal last summer from Brentford, and he came in at a strange time.
Indeed, Raya was coming in to replace a goalkeeper who’d just made the Premier League Team of the Season, and while it sounds strange now, Arsenal fans weren’t fully behind Raya at the beginning.
There was tons of debate about why Raya was signed to replace Ramsdale, and many thought this move was unnecessary.
However, according to Ben White, speaking to Amazon, you could immediately see the quality that Raya had in training, claiming that the Spaniard brought a level of calmness to the team straight away.
White also remarked that Raya’s technique is absolutely unbelievable, and that he sees that everyday in training.
Ben White praises David Raya
White spoke highly of the £27m goalkeeper when speaking to Amazon.
The defender said that Raya’s ability was evident straight away in training, claiming that he makes incredible saves every single day.
“Yeah you could see the level straight away in training. Just his aura, you know that you are safe, his technique is unbelievable, the saves he has been making recently, that’s everyday in training. Unbelievable yeah, his technique is top,” White said.
How Arsenal feel about David Raya signing now
Many questioned the signing of David Raya at the time, but he’s proven to be an excellent addition to this Arsenal team.
Raya has proven many pundits wrong, and the internal view at Arsenal is that this was an incredible signing.
Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal believe Raya is one of their best recent signings.
Arsenal internally believe this has been one of the best signings in recent years for them,” Romano said.
“It wasn’t easy to change goalkeeper, Ramsdale was doing very well, but they wanted to change their style. They believe signing Raya on loan with an obligation to buy at something around £27m. Arsenal believe his value is over £50m, probably £60m.”
“They are delighted with the player, Inaki Cana is developing him in the best way possible, so fantastic feelings at Arsenal around David Raya.”
Ultimately, the signing of Raya has proven to be an inspired bit of business by Arsenal, and, as White says, his ability was evident from day one in north London.
