Ange Postecoglou would have been delighted with Dominic Solanke’s impact for Tottenham against Galatasaray in the UEFA Europa League.

Postecoglou’s side were all over the place at RAMS Park on Thursday (7 November).

Yunus Akgün’s wonder strike gave Galatasaray the lead just six minutes into the match.

And after Will Lankshear had equalised for the visitors, Victor Osimhen put the hosts in a commanding position by grabbing a first-half brace.

Son Heung-min struggled to make an impact in the match, hooked at the break by Postecoglou.

And things went from bad to worse for Spurs as goalscorer Lankshear was sent off for two bookable offences. However, somehow, Spurs had arguably their best period of the game after going down to 10 men.

A big part of that was the introduction of Solanke. The striker grabbed a goal to give Spurs some hope not long after coming on.

And Glen Hoddle was impressed with what he saw from the Tottenham forward.

While commentating on TNT Sports’ live coverage of the match, the ex-Spurs midfielder said (via BBC Sport, 7 November), “A lovely little finish.

“Dominic Solanke with a clever little back flick, he is in a confident mood. You sense Galatasaray have switched off.”

Dominic Solanke makes the difference for Tottenham v Galatasaray

Solanke was left out by Postecoglou ahead of kick-off. However, the 27-year-old still managed to have a say on the night and proved that things might have been different had he started the match.

His finish was clever and inventive. However, apart from that goal, he did struggle ever so slightly.

As per Sofascore, he only managed to complete 50 per cent of his passes and succeed with 50 per cent of his dribble attempts.

In addition, he won just three of his seven ground duels and gave possession of the ball away eight times. He did win one foul and make a tackle, but he was also dribbled past once.

However, all that mattered was that he managed to put the ball in the back of the net, and Spurs did look much more threatening after his introduction.

As a result, Postecoglou might think twice before resting Solanke in such a big game next time.

In other Tottenham news, Son Heung-min’s camp have been left shocked after a contract U-turn.
