Ange Postecoglou suddenly has yet another talented goalkeeper on his radar at Tottenham.
Spurs aren’t short on young talent at the moment, with 17-year-old Mikey Moore leading the way when it comes to exciting prospects emerging out of Hotspur Way.
However, while tricky wingers are exciting for supporters to watch, having a confident goalkeeper between the sticks is equally as important for a team.
And it appears as though Postecoglou might soon have his pick of talented young Spurs hopefuls in this particular department.
Aaron Maguire recently shone for Spurs’ Under-21s in place of the injured Luca Gunter, who is a big talent in his own right. Meanwhile, Josh Keeley is beginning to make an impact on loan with Leyton Orient.
However, it was 17-year-old Archer who made an impact for the club’s Under-21s on Tuesday (5 November), and in the process gave Postecoglou something brand-new to consider.
Sam Archer shines despite defeat for Tottenham Under-21s on Tuesday
It was a disappointing evening for Spurs’ Under-21s on Tuesday as they were knocked out of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy by Swindon Town at the Nigel Eady County Ground.
Wayne Burnett’s side needed three points to leapfrog their League Two hosts and qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
However, instead, they were beaten 2-1 on a frustrating evening which saw multiple chances spurned, although Tyrese Hall did manage to get on the scoresheet, a big boost considering his recent struggles.
And while Spurs did lose the match, they did leave with one positive after Archer’s “brave” performance between the sticks (via Spurs’ Official Website, 5 November).
The 17-year-old, who is the captain of the club’s Under-18s, was handed his debut at Under-21 level against Swindon Town. He made several saves in the match, demonstarting that Spurs’ pool of talented goalkeepers runs deep at Hotspur Way.
While he isn’t likely to be making a first-team debut any time soon, he will no doubt have placed himself firmly on Postecoglou’s radar.
Not only did he make his Under-21s debut at the age of 17, but Archer played well too, which can only be positive for his future prospects in North London.
In other Tottenham news, the release clause of a player the club wants to sign has emerged.
