Jamie O’Hara has slammed Dominic Solanke for his shocking Tottenham performance against Coventry City on Wednesday (18 September).

Spurs scraped their way through to the fourth round of the EFL Cup after two late goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson secured a 2-1 win at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

It was far from a positive showing from Ange Postecolou’s side, who were lucky as the home side missed multiple clear-cut chances with Ben Davies coming to the rescue on one occasion.

Solanke struggled once again, which has seen some criticism levelled at the record signing since his move from Bournemouth.

It was a tough night for Spurs but they were able to secure the result they wanted in the end.

The 27-year-old Solanke came under fire from former midfielder O’Hara live on talkSPORT on 18 September (10:13pm) who slammed his performance.

He said: “Solanke comes off after 60 minutes again, that’s got to be a talking point. £60million and I know price tags mean nothing but come on you’ve got to make something happen for yourself.

“If you stand on a football pitch for 60 minutes and you don’t have a shot, surely you’ve got to have a look at yourself and think, ‘I’ve got to do more’.”

In his 62-minute showing, the former Chelsea youngster had just 24 touches and completed nine passes with an 82 per cent pass accuracy [FotMob].

The Englishman was dispossessed twice as he attempted two dribbles and completed one with a 50 per cent completion.

It will be frustrating for Postecoglou to see his new striker win just 43 per cent of his duels, losing nine up against the Coventry defence.

For a striker who prides himself on his physicality, this is simply not good enough from Solanke against Championship opposition.

His defensive work was better as he won 67 per cent of his tackles, made one block and one clearance but this isn’t what he is asked to do.

Solanke needs to buck up his ideas and rediscover his Bournemouth form that made Spurs fork out a record fee for him.
