Former Rangers star John Lundstram has been criticised for his performances in Turkey and his Ibrox exit is proving to have been the right decision.

Lundstram made over 150 appearances for the Gers before an exit in the summer of 2024, a decision that many questioned at the time.

However, that decision is now appearing to have been the right one with the former midfielder accused of offering “absolutely nothing” by former Turkish international Sergen Yalcin (Daily Record, 7 November).

Lundstram has made 16 appearances for Turkish side Trabzonspor since leaving Ibrox and is yet to impress.

Have Rangers missed John Lundstram?

Rangers have certainly missed many things so far this season but Lundstram is not one of them. Despite being a constant in the Gers side last campaign, it’s near impossible to see a scenario in which he could have impacted Rangers positively this season.

Most of Rangers’ woes have come in an attacking sense with several attacking players underperforming considerably leading to Philippe Clement’s side being an alarming nine points from the top of the table after just ten games.

Under the stewardship of the Belgian, the Gers have scored just 19 goals in those games, compared to the 28 scored by the leading duo of Celtic and Aberdeen.

Given that Lundstram only notched on ten occasions in all competitions, it would be somewhat ludicrous to say he could have in any way influenced the club this season.

Rangers’ decision to part ways with the midfielder was one of few good ones that the club have made over the past 12 months with them being labelled as a “basketcase” by Gary Keown.

In other Rangers news, Celtic’s latest Champions League victory serves as good news for the Gers as Scottish football has “launched up the coefficient table”.
