Tottenham will be jumping with joy after Josh Keeley made FA Cup history with Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Oldham Athletic were seconds away from beating The O’s in the FA Cup second round on 30 November when the goalkeeper equalised for his side and forced the game into extra time.

While a late Dan Agyei then sealed the win for Leyton, manager Richie Wellens was full of praise for the Spurs loanee, hailing him for his bravery.

“Listen, Josh deserves this because he has character”, Wellens told Orient TV [1 December], as well as the press.

“He’s brave, you see the saves he make, you see him on the ball and I’m really pleased for him.”

Impressed by the 21-year-old, the former Leicester man touched on how much he has excelled for Leyton.

“We’ve got a goalkeeper who’s excelling at the moment”, he said.

Keeley etched his name in The O’s history books, becoming the first goalkeeper to find the back of the net for them.

Furthermore, he is the first shot-stopper to score from open play in the FA Cup proper while still wearing the goalkeeper’s jersey, according to The Times [1 December] – something that Spurs can be proud of.

He is certainly in good company as the last Tottenham player to score his first senior goal on loan at Leyton was Harry Kane.

The Irishman’s first season in league football is, therefore, going according to plan, having also emerged as the penalty shootout hero in the League One club’s win over Boreham Wood in the first round of the FA Cup on 3 November.

The North London giants will now be hopeful that Keeley can use his experience at Brisbane Road to perhaps take over from Guglielmo Vicario one day.

Meanwhile, it remains a possibility that he faces his parent club in the fourth round of the FA Cup, with the player also expected to be given permission to play if it came to it.

In other Tottenham news, Dejan Kulusevski could help Spurs beat Arsenal to the signing of this Bundesliga star.
