John Wenham has suggested that Ange Postecoglou is set to stay put at Tottenham.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is not surprised that speculation around the 58-year-old’s future has already emerged.
As reported by The Telegraph (17 July), Postecoglou is expected to be considered as a candidate for the vacant England managerial position.
In response to the links, Postecoglou told Sky Sports News (17 July), “I am at the start of pre-season and am the Tottenham manager, so I have got nothing else [on my mind] but trying to bring success to this football club.
“Until I do that, there is no point in me thinking about anything else. I had a nap this afternoon, so I have no idea what is going on [with the speculation].”
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels that it is very clear where Postecoglou’s future lies.
“Postecoglou has been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League,” Wenham said.
“In my opinion, he has done a fantastic job at the club in such a short period. Therefore, I’m not surprised that England are interested in him, that speculation is natural.
“However, I think he put an end to that speculation himself with his recent comments. It is clear to me that Postecoglou’s future lies at Tottenham.”
Ange Postecoglou to remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?
Taking on a role as prestigious as the England manager is likely to be tempting.
In addition, Postecoglou has previous experience in international management. Therefore, it is no surprise that his name has cropped up following Gareth Southgate’s departure.
However, he appears to be building a long-term project in North London and will no doubt be keen to see that through.
He has only been with Spurs for one season and the decision to quit now would therefore come as quite a surprise.
And considering the way his first season in charge went, supporters are likely keen for Postecoglou to stick around.
In other Tottenham news, one Under-21 player is set for a “breakthrough” season in North London next year.
