Youth Expert: Ange to hand Tottenham debut to academy sensation in Europa League tonight

John Wenham expects Ange Postecoglou to hand Leo Black his full Tottenham debut in the UEFA Europa League.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose sees George Abbott – who has made a bright start to life on loan with Notts County – as Black’s main competition in North London.

Black has been featuring and impressing for Spurs’ Under-21s this season after a standout campaign with the Under-18s last year.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes a full Spurs debut isn’t far off for the 18-year-old.

“He could make his full debut in the Europa League,” Wenham said.

“Black is a very versatile player. He can play that inverted right-back role to a tee because he was a central midfielder who just last season developed into a right-back.

“With Abbott out on loan, I could see Black moving up the pathway at Tottenham. Abbott is Black’s main competition if he is going to break through in North London.

“Therefore, just by being around the club this season, with the way Europa League games are lined up, I think he will benefit.”

This season’s Europa League sees eight league-style fixtures, rather than six group-stage matches. As a result, there are more games for all the clubs involved.

Therefore, managers will have to manage their squads more carefully due to the increased workload.

As a result, Postecoglou could call on some of his talented young players to make their debuts, and Black would most likely be near the front of that queue.

With some favourable fixtures against the likes of Qarabağ FK and IF Elfsborg on the agenda, that could be the perfect opportunity for Black to make his debut and earn some valuable European experience.
