Youth Expert raves about ‘Phenomenal’ Tottenham U18 gem after what he has done

John Wenham has piled praise on Tottenham Under-18 defender Jun’ai Byfield.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has described the 16-year-old as “the Mikey Moore of defenders.”

Byfield has started both matches for Spurs’ Under-18s thus far during the 2024/25 campaign, with the North London side top of the Under-18 Premier League after claiming maximum points.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is excited about what this season holds.

“As we saw toward the end of last season, a lot of the younger players are the stars at that level,” Wenham said.

“Luca Williams-Barnett, Malachi Hardy and Byfield have all been called up to an England Under-17 training camp, they’re three fantastic players.

“Focussing on Byfield, he is honestly like the Mikey Moore of centre-backs. He is just phenomenal, I am really excited about him.

“This team has got a lot of goals in them and as a result, I am sure they will go close in both the FA Youth Cup and Under-18 Premier League again this season.”

Moore is one of the most exciting young talents in the country.

Despite only recently turning 17 he has already made his first-team debut for Tottenham. In addition, he featured heavily during the club’s pre-season tour.

Therefore, for Byfield to be compared to Moore is a huge compliment for the young centre-back.

While a first-team debut might still be a long way off, it sounds as though Ange Postecoglou has yet another young player to keep a close eye on at Hotspur Way.
