'100%' - Pundit raves about latest Rangers exit deal after Sky Sports update today

Gordon Dalziel believes Rangers and Robby McCrorie will benefit as a move to Kilmarnock has moved closer to completion.

A report from Sky Sports (9 July, 12:00 pm) has suggested that the goalkeeper has returned to Scotland from the Gers’ training camp in the Netherlands.

The 26-year-old now looks set to sign a two-year deal with Killie after informing the Light Blues that he wanted to leave in search of more regular first-team football.

Discussing the move for McCrorie on Clyde 1 Superscore (9 July), Andrew Maclean asked: “Did that always look like it was going to happen this summer? Is he a player that just needs first-team football at this point in his career?”

In response, Gordon Dalziel said: “Yes, 100 per cent. You know Butland, unless he gets injured is going to be number one goalkeeper. Obviously, it suits Liam Kelly going there in a good move from Motherwell.

“McCrorie had to look at his career, he doesn’t want to be number two for all his days. I think it’s a good move, not just for him but for Rangers as well.”

The Scot only featured once in all competitions last season for the Gers, in a Scottish Cup clash against Dumbarton where he conceded late in a 4-1 win.

This lack of minutes isn’t a mark against his qualities, more so a point of just how good Butland has been since joining on a free transfer.

The Englishman kept 18 Scottish Championship clean sheets last campaign which included making plenty of world-class saves along the way.

The 31-year-old is one of Rangers’ most important players and that saw him feature in almost every game he was available for.

McCrorie has fallen victim to the form of Butland and so now a move away from Ibrox to potentially be the first choice is a positive option.

Jon McLaughlin has departed and with Kelly coming in, he probably has assurances that he will be the number two choice.

A deal to go to Kilmarnock is beneficial for all parties and it looks as if a move is set to be completed.

In other Rangers news, another first-team ace is set for a permanent exit with a medical now expected.
