'Absolute Shocker' - Pundit rages at 'Terrible' controversy as Rangers lose to Dynamo Kyiv

Jefte’s sending off for Rangers in the 2-0 defeat to Dynamo Kyiv was an “absolute shocker” of a decision, according to Marvin Bartley.

The pundit reacted with fury via X on 13 August after the Brazilian was shown a second yellow at Hampden Park after jumping for a header early in the second half, in a challenge that was barely even a foul.

He had already been unfortunate to pick up a first booking for a soft foul in the first-half, and with VAR unable to intervene he was dismissed with the score at 0-0, with the game eventually slipping away late on.

An outraged Bartley wrote: “How’s that a red card? Terrible decision and the player acting doesn’t help either!! Absolute shocker”.

Marvin Bartley outraged as Rangers signing sent off

The first half at Hampden Park wasn’t the easiest to watch but Philippe Clement’s side probably had the better of the play so the defeat will hurt after they were knocked out by a late double

Had the numbers remained even the Gers would have probably been confident of pushing on in the second period after the introduction of new star winger Vaclav Cerny, following his match-winning performance against Motherwell.

But the Czech’s influence was tempered by his side being short-handed and forced into a rearguard action.

Ross McCausland scuffed a shot when played in by Cyriel Dessers in the first half, just has Mohamed Diomande should have done better when the Nigerian slipped him in after the break.

Jefte’s red card for Rangers sparked outrage.

Amid a feeling of injustice the home side were made to pay inside the final 10 minutes when Oleksandr Pikhalyonok and Nazar Voloshyn scored twice in two minutes on a miserable night at the national stadium.

And Ridvan Yilmaz’s latest injury was another blow to Clement when he is already operating with an under-strength squad, with chances of the left-back making a transfer exit [Fotomac, 6 August] surely over after he was stretchered off in tears.

In other Rangers news, an explanation has emerged as a Light Blues ace looks set to be forced out.
