Celtic striker Adam Idah is ‘only going to get better’ after he was given a start in their pivotal Champions League draw with Atalanta on Wednesday (October 23).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie was glad to see the 23-year-old be given a chance in their 0-0 draw with the Italian side and believes the striker can still be a big player for the club.
Idah received only his fourth start for Celtic against Atalanta since completing his permanent £9.5million move from Norwich City in the summer transfer window.
The Republic of Ireland international didn’t have too much to do against the Serie A side as Celtic dug in with an impressive defensive display to secure a much-needed point.
Adam Idah has a big future at Celtic
After impressing on loan at the Scottish champions in the second half of last season, scoring nine goals in 19 games across all competitions, Idah has failed to get going since making the move permanent.
Idah has scored four goals so far this season, three in cup competitions and just one in the Scottish Premier League.
“I thought he might have got the start because of the way that they (Atalanta) play”, McAvennie told Football Insider.
“He’s not had a pre-season, he’s only going to get better because he’s going to get fitter, I know that Brendan will be giving him extra training to get him up to speed with the rest of the boys.
“Games like that, physically and mentally, they bring you up to match fitness which is great and I’m glad he got a game.
“He held the ball up well for the midfield coming in and they didn’t all just runaway, I’m delighted. He can be a beast for this team.”
