Alan Myers: Everton agree another new transfer as race heats up

Everton and Hull City have reached an agreement over the signing of Jaden Philogene this summer, according to Alan Myers.

The journalist reported via his personal X account on Tuesday (9 July) that the two clubs have an agreement in place with the 22-year-old open to a move to Goodison Park.

It is understood, however, that the Toffees are facing strong competition from two other clubs, having made a £16million offer for the Hull winger [The Athletic].

The winger positions have often been a struggle for Sean Dyche since he arrived at Goodison Park, with few options available for either flank.

However, the position looks set to be the strongest they have been in many years, especially if the Toffees can secure Philogene’s signature this summer.

While £16million could be seen as quite a big spend on a Championship player, the 22-year-old has just experienced a superb season at the MKM Stadium, notching 12 goals and six assists in 32 appearances.

The winger joined the Tigers from Aston Villa last summer, having been unable to break into the first team at Villa Park, though the Evertonians seem ready to give him a real opportunity in the top tier.

Philogene was instrumental in the Championship last season as Hull narrowly missed out on the play-off spots to Norwich City, which eventually saw Liam Rosenior sacked.

Dyche looks to be building an extremely exciting squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, and considering the team’s lack of goals last season, fans will be excited to see some of the transfer stories emerging.

Only Sheffield United scored fewer goals than the Toffees in the Premier League, but due to their resolute defending, managed to finish the season in 15th place.

The addition of Philogene will only add balance to their defence and attack, with the 22-year-old offering plenty of threat to the frontline.

In other Everton news, the Toffees may have found their Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacement should the striker depart this summer.
