Alan Myers shares if Dan Friedkin will spend big in January after Everton debt update

Dan Friedkin is likely to take it steady in the January transfer window if his Everton takeover is completed in time, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist posted on X (23 September) in response to a question regarding the club’s debt, saying that it won’t necessarily drop to zero once Friedkin takes charge at Goodison Park.

Despite this marked improvement in the financial situation, the Toffees aren’t set to spend a lot on new transfers to improve their squad.

Friedkin has achieved a breakthrough in takeover talks with Farhad Moshiri in recent days and his agreement could come with an equity investment of up to £500million [Myers, 23 September].

Dan Friedkin may be forced into transfer window activity at Everton

Although Friedkin seems set to become the new majority shareholder at Goodison Park, there are still plenty of boxes to be ticked before he can officially take control of the club.

By the time the takeover is signed, sealed and delivered, fortunes on the pitch at Goodison Park could have taken either an upturn or a more worrying downturn in form.

As things stand, Sean Dyche’s side are second-bottom in the Premier League with just a solitary point to their name, losing their first four games before a draw at Leicester last time out.

Should this dismal form continue for much longer, not only will Dyche’s position come under further scrutiny, but his small, injury-hit squad will also come under the microscope.

If Dyche is still in the post once the January transfer window comes around, he could lean on Friedkin to add reinforcements to his relegation-threatened squad [Henry Winter, 23 September], particularly if the current injury crisis hasn’t eased by then.

In other Everton news, Troy Deeney thinks the Toffees cannot survive a Premier League relegation battle without one specific player.
