Everton appear set to finally embark on a new era at Goodison Park after the latest takeover developments on Merseyside.

The Toffees confirmed on Monday (23 September) that the Friedkin Group had reached an agreement with Blue Heaven Holdings to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s controlling stake at Goodison Park.

While the deal still needs approval from the Premier League, the English FA and the financial conduct authority, it seems as though Farhad Moshiri’s spell in charge of the Toffees is finally coming to an end.

Sources close to the Friedkin Group have suggested it’s too early to discuss their plans for the club on the field, they are understood to be eager to carry out an audit of footballing operations [i News, 23 September].

That will include Sean Dyche’s position. The Englishman has entered the final year of his contract with the Blues and it is unclear whether or not the prospective new owners will be interested in extending his stay.

One name that has been mooted as a potential replacement for the former Burnley boss is Graham Potter, with reports suggesting the ex-Chelsea manager is highly thought of at Goodison Park [TBR Football, 5 September].

Although it isn’t clear whether or not the Friedkin Group are interested in appointing the Englishman in England, they have only recently already made a decision around Potter at their other club Roma.

Writing for Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing (23 September) Matteo Moretto said: “Last Wednesday Roma dismissed Daniele de Rossi, and Ivan Juric was chosen by the owners, the Friedkin family.

“Sporting Director Florent Ghisolfi, as is normal, had a list of managers and an idea about what he wanted, but generally they were all foreign managers.

“One of those was former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche after Goodison Park takeover developments?

Perhaps the Friedkins decided against appointing Potter in the Italian capital because they were keen for him to remain out of work so that he was available to take over from Dyche on Merseyside.

However, there is also a chance that the prospective Everton owners were unconvinced by the former Brighton manager’s credentials and as a result decided to pursue alternative candidates.

The Roma job is a very different role to the one potentially on offer at Goodison and the Friedkin Group may feel Potter is more equipped to help a team avoid the drop and climb the table, rather than qualify for Europe.

Whatever happened, it appears as though the prospective new Blues owners have already had a run-in with one of the candidates to replace Dyche this season.

It will be interesting to see if they make a different decision on Merseyside.
